In August 2022, I quietly closed the door on a life I had once dreamed of - my chapter in Spain. I returned to England, the country I once called home, carrying with me more than just suitcases. I brought heartbreak, healing, and the embers of a new beginning.

My husband passed away in December 2020 while we were living abroad. His loss left a void I tried to fill in countless ways, some brave, some desperate. I wandered through grief masked as adventure, and while my friends whispered that I’d gone a little loco, I was simply trying to survive.

Eventually, I returned to England and found work, unsure of what path to take next. With a background in both teaching and accounting, I took on a college contract teaching AAT in Newport. But something had changed — I had changed. The spark I once felt in academia wasn’t there. So, I turned back toward accountancy, still searching for something that felt like me.

Back home, the familiar shadows of poor health returned - high blood pressure, weight gain, exhaustion. The menopause had first shaken me in my late 40s, and now the old symptoms were creeping back in. Doctors assured me I'd be on blood pressure tablets for life. I disagreed.

In Spain, I had found a private doctor who actually listened. He helped me safely wean off the tablets that were making me feel worse, not better. A nutritionist helped me reclaim my body and lose the weight I’d been carrying — physically and emotionally. But back in the UK, I found myself slipping once again.

My health spiralled, and this time, I discovered a new challenge: lactose intolerance. Most of the medication I’d been prescribed contained lactose — the very thing that was poisoning me from the inside out.

That was my breaking point… and my turning point.

I realised I was living a life I no longer recognised and certainly didn’t desire. I wasn’t ready to fade into the background of my own story. I wanted to rewrite it.

So, The Golden Lady was born.

Not just as a brand - but as a lifestyle, a movement, and a personal promise. A declaration that midlife is not an ending, but an invitation. I wanted to create a space where elegance, vitality, confidence, and curiosity could flourish. Where women like me - navigating grief, menopause, reinvention - could feel seen, empowered, and inspired.

I began writing again, despite a busy schedule. I carved out moments to nourish my body, mind, and spirit. I stopped accepting that age meant decline and instead embraced it as my golden opportunity.

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about becoming.

And The Golden Lady is my gift — to myself and to every woman ready to live fully, glow freely, and rise gracefully.
